Why not take the family and go have some fun sledding at Memorial Hill in Greenville. What a fun and great way to stay in shape and also spend time as a family. Even though it is cold outside, there are always things you can do to stay in shape and have fun. Snowball fights, build an igloo, make a tunnel, shovel snow (okay not as fun but still burning calories) Just make sure you listen to your body and know when it is time to stop and go in and get warm.

- Clementine or navel orange
- Pear
- Dried apricot
- Peanut butter or cream cheese
- Mini chocolate chips
- Nut (we used a cashew)
- Dried cranberry
How to make it
- Arrange apple and clementine or navel orange slices on a plate as shown, and lay a cored pear half on top.
- Use scissors to halve a dried apricot, then snip small triangles from each half and tuck them under the pear to form the feet.
- Finally, use peanut butter or softened cream cheese to attach mini chocolate chip eyes, a nut beak, and a dried cranberry snood.

November 5, 2012: Monday Jr. High 2:45-3:30
Well with today being the last day, we did our last assessment for the fall and the kids really improved their times from the first assessment back in Sept. Very proud of them all. Keep on working out throughout the Winter and see you in the Spring.
November 7, 2012: South 2:45-3:30
Last Wednesday until the Spring. Just like the Jr. High, these kids really improved their assessment times as well. We had a girl hold a plank for 15 minutes!!!!! Good Job Riley :) Well keep on working out throughout the Winter and see you all in the Spring. Keep looking at the blog, I will try and keep it posted with fun things for the families and recipes that you all can try. What a wonderful 8 weeks it has been.
Thanks again parents for letting your child participate the program and hope they come back for the Spring.

Monday Oct. 29, 2012- Jr. High 2:45-3:30
We started out with our warm-up and since it was cold outside, we ran 4 laps inside. The gym was in use which was perfect for what I wanted to do with the kids. We did an activity that you can actually do anywhere in a small space and still get a great workout.
This workout I found on a blog. All it uses is a deck of cards. Even if you don't have a deck of cards, you can still do this.
If you don't have cards, you will do 2 rounds of this. Do 15 of each exercise and when you get through, you go through it again.
2- 15 jump squats
2- 15 jumping jacks
2- alternating jump jacks
2- high knees
2- mountain climbers
2- running butt kicks
2- wide push-ups
2- jumping jacks
2- bicycle crunches
If you have cards, K, Q, J all equal 10 and A equals 1 or 11, all other cards 2-10 equal that number.
Flip over 3 cards and do however many it says: ex: you flip a 5, 7, and a K= 22 jumping squats,
Flip over 3 more cards, 2, A, K= you could make it 13, or make it 23 jumping jacks.
Do all nine exercises, give yourself about a minute break and do another set.
Add your own set of exercises if you get bored with these.
At the end, I gave the Jr. High kids each a set of cards with these exercises and told them that throughout the winter, this is something that they could do with their families.
Ended with a cool down. Yes, they were all sweating :)
Wednesday Oct. 31, 2012- South School 2:45-3:30
With today being there "Special Day", I did promise them kickball. Wish we could have played it outside but with the weather being a little cool and windy, we played inside the gym.
Friday Nov. 1, 2012- YMCA 2:30-4:40
Today was Dance Day Friday!! A BIG thanks goes out to Courtney Long who showed the Goal Getters some awesome dances. I was surprised to see that EVERYONE was trying out the dance moves. She had some wonderful games that also got the kids moving while still having fun.
Don't forget that next Friday Nov. 9, WE WILL NOT BE GOING TO THE Y. WE WILL HAVE OUR FAMILY SWIM PARTY FROM 6:30P.M. - 8:30 P.M.
This will also be the last week for the Greenville Goal Getters until Spring. I will try to keep the blog up with activities throughout the winter along with some recipes that maybe you can try.

Monday Oct. 22, 2012: Jr. High 2:45-3:30
Started with our warm-up and they ran 4 laps outside. I have to say that almost everyone ran the whole thing. As I was watching, there were a few that had to walk a little but then they caught their breath and continued. Good Job Jr. High!!
I decided that since they have been working hard every week, it was time to have some fun and play......
What a work-out that was!!! I don't know which was harder, doing an actual workout or dodge-ball :)
Thanks Mr. Mortensen for helping out
Wednesday Oct. 24, 2012: South School 2:45-3:30
We started out with our warm-up inside the gym, thanks Mrs. Hawk for warming them up, and then we went outside and ran our 3 laps.
Then the group was divided into 8 groups and each group started out at a station. The stations were placed around the playground area.
If you were at START, you then would JOG to Station 1 where you did 20 JUMPING JACKS.
To get to Station 2 you would HOP and then do 10 SQUATS.
To get to Station 3 you would WALK and then do 25 FRONT KICKS.
To get to Station 4 you would GALLOP and do 10 PUSHUPS.
To get to Station 5 you would JUMP and do 10 LUNGES.
To get to Station 6 you would WALK and do 8 JUMP SQUATS.
To get to Station 7 you would JOG and then do 10 TRICEP DIPS.
You then would have to HOP to Station 8 and do 15 CALF RAISES and then
GALLOP back to START and REPEAT.
The South kids worked very hard this week and I don't think I heard anyone complain so next Wednesday, I told them that we could play Kickball and have a FUN WEDNESDAY. I am so proud of all these kids and from the looks, I think they are having a good time as well.
Thanks to Mrs. Hawk and Mr. Mortensen for helping out.
Friday Oct. 24, 2012: YMCA Basketball
We started out with a snack of grapes and cuties. The kids really enjoyed the fresh fruits.
Then the kids were split into 3 groups.
*Group 1 was lead by Mr. Nick who did a session on push-ups.
* Group 2 was lead by Mr. Daniel and he had the kids do a ladder workout.
* Group 3 was lead by Miss Jen who had the kids work on abs.
After that the kids went with the same group and worked on some basketball drills. After the drills the kids got to play a game of basketball. We had 4 teams and the winners of the teams got to play the winner of the other team and the losers got to play the losers. I think they all had fun and Mr. Nick had a great talk with the kids about teamwork and when you are on a team how it just can't be you, you have to use your team mates to pass the ball, have someone down by the hoop and most of all, work together. They all had fun and enjoyed themselves.
Thanks Mr. Nick, Mr. Daniel and Miss Jen

I just realized that I didn't post about our picnic last Sunday Oct. 21, 2012....
What a PERFECT & BEAUTIFUL day it was. Thanks to those who came and missed the ones who couldn't make it. Thanks to Sue Bowman for the hot dog buns and brats and thanks to my husband Martin and my daughter Michelle for grilling them. Thanks to the parents and kids for all the goodies that were brought.
It was nice to see the families enjoying themselves with their children and getting exercise on top of it :) Some were hitting the volleyball, little ones were playing on the playground equipment, some were playing P-I-G with the basketball, but I think EVERYONE had a GREAT TIME with KICKBALL!!! Wow, some serious kickball was going on :) Even the little ones got involved in the game.
I think we played for over an hour and we still had some at the end who didn't want to leave. Maybe this winter when we get the winter blues, I will see if we can go somewhere and play.
I told the kids and families that I would keep my eye on the weather and maybe some Sunday, if the weather looks promising, that I would maybe do a mass email and we could all meet over at Gettysburg and take a walk on the new walking trail that they have. If I am not mistaken, I think it is 7 miles and ends in Bradford?

Whether you are riding your bike, on
horseback, skating or walking, you can now travel the length of the new
multi-use and ADA accessible trail. The whole family can now make use of
the first 7.2 miles of the Darke County Parks "Tecumseh Trail" which
opened Saturday in Gettysburg, Ohio.

WEDNESDAY OCT. 17, 2012 SOUTH MIDDLE SCHOOL 2:45-3:30
We started out with our warm up inside and since it was a beautiful day, we did 3 laps outside around the blacktop.
We then did a similar version of Four Corners that they play at the skating rink but instead of having someone pick that corner and you were out, the person doing the picking of the corner got to choose how many and what exercise that that corner had to do. It couldn't be more than 20 so it could be 15 situps, 10 pushups, etc. So while the person in the middle had their eyes closed, the group would have to either skip, bear walk, run, hop,etc and when the whistle was blown, they had to go to the closest corner. They all seemed to really have fun with this.
Really can't find any pictures to go with this. If you have questions, you can always ask your child to explain it or better yet, make it a family game.
Thank you Mrs. Hawk and Mr. Mortensen for helping
FRIDAY OCT. 19, 2012 YMCA 2:30-4:30 ish
The kids had a snack of grapes and cuties (little oranges)
They then had a segment on Martial Arts and got to learn some of the moves which they do. They all seemed to enjoy it. Christy Baker from the Y will be giving me the names of the people that were there helping out with this so we can give them proper credit for their part. They had a really good discussion with the kids about bullying and keeping their body healthy. Thanks to Mike O'Neal, Bruce Mikesell and Daniel Wittles for the Tae Kwon Do lessons.
Then the kids had a Yoga segment which was started off by TJ Suter and then Emily Jasenski from ElementsLife- http://elementslife.com/yoga/ had a session with the kids. Can I tell you how much the kids LOVED THIS!!!! I think they want her to come back for a second round. I think I even saw some of the volunteers trying to do some of her moves :) Anyway it was a wonderful week for the Goal Getters and looking forward to this week.
THIS WEEK WE WILL BE AT THE TRAILS AND THE KIDS WILL BE LEARNING ABOUT SOCCER. PICK-UP WILL BE AT TE JR. HIGH 4:30-4:45. IF PLANS CHANGE, WE WILL NOTIFY YOU.

Monday Oct. 8-10, 2012
I was unable to be at Goal Getters Monday or Wednesday due to a death in my family back home in Illinois.
I was back on Friday Oct. 12, 2012 where we headed out to the Trails for some Flag Football. The group was split in half where Mr. Nick took half the kids for Flag Football and the other half went on a walk with Miss Christy. The kids really had a good time.
Thanks Tammy Abell for providing snacks for Goal Getters.
This coming week, we will be back out at the trails.
Also next Sunday Oct. 21, 2012, I am trying to get a family picnic together. If your child did not get one of these papers on Friday out at the trails, they will get one on Monday and if they can be returned no later than Thursday Oct. 18, 2012, that would be great. From my understanding when I talked to the parks people they said that the water hasn't been shut off yet so the restrooms should still be working. Other things you might want to bring would be, lawn chairs, Frisbees, Basketballs and maybe some Footballs. I am hoping that the weather cooperates for us.
