2 MILE FUN RUN!!! MAY 11, 2012 6:00 P.M.

First, the GGG Team would like to thank you for allowing your son/daughter to workout with us for the past several weeks.  The students have been doing a great job and are getting stronger and faster as the weeks progress.  We continually see change in the attitude toward exercise and displaying a more positive self-concept.

We are culminating our program at the end of the 10 week session by having a 2 mile "Run with the Kids" fun run/walk to be held at Chenoweth Trails.  We want all of the parents, family members to experience what our students have been working towards.  You and the students will become familiar with how other racing events are held and what to expect if you feel the challenge of a longer run/walk.

Each participant will receive a T-shirt, finishers' medal, and other snacks at the "Run with the Kids" event.

Your child will enter this race FREE of CHARGE.  If any of the family members would like to participate and you don't have forms, please call GJHS at 548-3202 and they can get the forms to you.

Finally we will end the evening with family night.  Come and experience Chenoweth Trails and the other exciting events we have planned.

If for some reason you can not make it on May 11, we are going to have a 2 mile Fun Run at the Jr. High on May 9, 2012 at 2:45.  There are some 6th grade students and myself who will be going on the Chicago Trip May 11, and can't do that run so we are doing our run May 9.  Again for anyone that can't make it on May 11 and would still like to run with your son/daughter, please contact the Jr. High for the forms.

Week 7 of the Greenville Goal Getters

Monday5th grade and the Jr. High:

TJ Suter started the kids out with a warm up and a stretch and then the kids were divided into 3 groups.
*The first group was the group who wanted to try and run for 15 minutes all the way, no stopping.

*The second group was the group who would run for 5 mins., and walk for 1min.  Run for 5 mins and walk for 1.  Run for 3, walk for 1 min.

*The third group were the ones who wanted to jog, walk for the 15 minutes.  The whole group did a good job and everyone finished.

Then they went back inside and TJ lead the group with some Yoga.

Then they were lead by TJ for a cool down.

Wednesday 6th grade and Jr. High:

We did the same as the Monday group.  Mr. Gehret lead the group with a warm up and a stretch.  Then we also divided up into 3 groups, those who wanted to run the whole 15 minutes, those who wanted to run/walk, and those who wanted a jog/walk.  Everyone did great.  Again so many of these kids have improved so much since the beginning of the program.

Afterwards, we went back inside and played Fitness Mania.  The were split into 3 groups and lined up.  On the half court line, were 2 piles of cards.  Group 1 had 2 piles, group 2 had 2 piles and so did group 3.  One pile was marked HM (how many) and the other set was marked Activity.  The first person ran to the half court line and picked a HM card and an Activity card then raced back to the rest of the group where they all had to do what was on the cards.  Ex:  HM....20     Activity.....situps.  So the whole group as a team had to do that.  Then the second person went and so forth until the pile was gone.
I think the kids really enjoyed that and it used the upper body, abs, and lower body.

The group then did a cool down and were dismissed.

SWIMMING FRIDAY AT THE YMCA!!

The groups was split into 2 groups.  The first group went swimming and the second group ran a 1 1/2 around the YMCA.  6 times around.  THE KIDS WERE AWESOME.  There were some kids who actually ran non stop for the whole 1 1/2.  There were other kids who ran walked it and some of those who jogged and walked but everyone finished!!!!  So very proud of them.

The the groups split and we did the same thing again.  They are working very hard and I am proud of each one.
