BeWOW: The Ultimate Pre-Thanksgiving Workout
BurpeesRocking planks
Lunge with overhead press (Do all reps on left, then all reps on right. See explanation below.)
Sit-ups
Dips
Dead lifts
Explanation of exercises
Burpees: Just like an up-down in football. Put your hands on the ground, jump your feet out behind you so you’re in push-up position, hit your chest to the ground, and bring your feet back in, stand up.
Rocking planks: Get into a plank on your elbows and toes. Pressing from your toes, shift your body straight forward and pull your body back. Forward and back is one rep.
Lunge with overhead press: Stand in a split position, left leg forward, holding a dumbbells in each hand at your shoulders, palms facing forward. Drop into a lunge, keeping your knee over the ankle and bending the left leg to 90 degrees. As you drop, press the weights up toward the ceiling. Pause when you’re full extended then return to the starting position. Do all reps with left leg forward, then switch to right leg forward and do all reps.
Sit-up: Lie on your back with feet on the floor and knees bent. Put your hands behind your ears. Without pulling on your neck and using only your abs, lift your shoulders off the mat and come to a full sit-up position. Lie back down slowly.
Dips: Using a bench or a chair, step your legs out a few feet in front of your body. Steady your hands on the bench or chair and, with your back just a few inches from your fingertips, lower your body to the ground. Then raise your body back to the starting position by pushing into the bench or chair. Repeat.
Dead Lifts: Stand with legs shoulder-width apart and dumbbells in hands. Bend knees slightly and lean forward with your arms moving towards the ground, until your back is at a table-top position,. Slowly return to the starting position.

Just a reminder that we are done with Goal Getters for this Fall Session. Also we were hoping to have Family Fun Night on Nov. 26 but it looks like that won't be happening. We are looking into doing something in December before the Holidays. When we get a go on the date, we will be passing info on to the kids.
Thanks again for letting your child participate in the Fall Session. We had so much fun and it is so exciting to see the kids take some of what we have given them and start to use it in their daily lives. Monday and Wednesday we did our final assessments and we actually have some students that want us to time them again for plank, pushups. We told them that 8 weeks would be Jan. 8, so looking forward to see their times.
Our Spring Session will be starting on March 24, 2014. The times and places as far as Mon. and Wed. will be the same and we will let you know about Fridays.
I hope everyone had fun and learned something new. I will try to keep things on the blog and facebook as far as recipes, exercises and other things that I find helpful. Good job my Goal Getters! Proud of you all.

WEEK 6:
What fun we are having at Goal Getters!!! The Jr. High worked very hard this week. We had our 15 minutes of talk and share time and then did our stretches and got ready to move. This was the workout we did. Not once did they complain or groan, they all were encouraging each other even when they were tired themselves. That's what a team does, they do their job and then go and encourage the others.
At South we did the same, had our 15 minutes of talk and share and then we also did our stretches and got ready to move. We played 4 corners, kind of like what you play at the skating rink.
The kids pretended skating forward, backward, and when the whistle was blown they moved to either corner 1,2,3 or 4. Then a dice was rolled and what ever number it landed on, that corner was SAFE. The other corners had to do 10 of whatever the dice roller wanted them to do. Yes, we even did the chicken dance. After our workout, the kids decided that last week they had toooooo much fun running in school that they wanted to do it again :) So yep I let them run till their hearts were content. (I just love the next day at school when I hear them saying to their friends, "Hey, we got to run yesterday in school and Mrs. Schaar even saw us." )
Friday at the Y the kids were allowed to swim the whole time and those who didn't want to swim, they got to hang out with Mr. Nick and play knock-out, dodge ball and other games to keep them moving. Thank you Mr. Daniel for life-guarding and making it fun for the group, and thanks again Wal-Mart for supplying the snacks for the kids.
