Well it just occurred to me that I have not put our weeks from what we have done on the blog.  So today after I spent sometime outside trimming my flowers, playing ball, and just enjoying this beautiful day, I thought I'd better sit down and let you parents know what we have been doing:
This will be for both the Jr. High and South

WEEK 1:   Really didn't do a workout today since I had papers that needed passed out.  One was a family pledge that I hope you families are doing.  You were to write down 1 or 2 goals that as a family, you all wanted to do for the next 8 weeks and then if you stuck to it, you would reward your family.  The other paper I passed out was a Family Lifestyle Self-Assessment that was for your family. Then there was a My Pyramid which had tips for families on the back, and lastly a recipe for Peanut Butter Muffins.

Then we let the kids experiment with the new equipment that we now have.  They then all received a Challenge. This week was "60 minutes give away." This included performing 60 minutes of physical labor to help a neighbor, school, community center, place of worship or at home. Examples could be yard-work, snow removal, painting, cleaning, etc.....

WEEK 2:
 Started with a warm up and then worked out with Jump Ropes and Cones
   *the kids were at these stations for 1 minute with a 30 sec break in between.

 Jump Rope - These were simple things that the kids could use if they only have a jump rope to use.  You can still get a great workout.
* 1 min. jump rope
* 1 min around the world
* Jump in and out
* Push ups in and out

Cones:
* 1 minute side to side with cones
* 1 minute shuttle run

We also had a sit-up station and used the bleachers for step ups. These were also done for 1 minute

Ended with a cool down and the kids got another Challenge- Games from the past:  As a family, select and participate in a sport or activity that your parents participated in when they were in elementary school, middle, or high school.  They also were handed a paper that talked about Why Exercise is Cool, and another recipe for Super Strawberry Bars.

WEEK 3:  Bodyweight Circuit

We started with the warm up. We then started our circuit stations which included using medicine balls and dumbbells. While the kids were at these stations they did them for 1 minute.

*Russian Twist (with medicine ball or dumbbell)
*Sit-ups (same)
*Triceps (same)
*Squats (same)
*Plank
*Calf raises (same)
*Lunges (same)

Cool down. Week three's challenge was Pre-Game Meal:  Help prepare a meal and then enjoy it with your family using the latest USDA dietary guidelines outlined in "Choose My Plate" found at www.chosemyplate.gov. They also brought home a family meal conversation starter called: The Calcium Connection, and the recipe of the week was Veggie Tortilla Lasagna.

FRIDAY APRIL 5, 2013 WE WILL BE GOING OUT TO CHENOWETH TRAILS.  PICK UP WILL BE AT THE JR. HIGH AT 4:30- GIVE OR TAKE 5-1O MINUTES.

REMEMBER THAT THERE WILL BE A SIGN UP SHEET OUTSIDE THE OFFICE AT SOUTH.  AT THE END OF 3RD PERIOD, IF YOUR NAME IS NOT ON THAT LIST, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO.  YOU WILL HAVE TO GO HOME AS USUAL.  I HAVE TO FOLLOW THE BUS LAW AND ON EACH BUS, WE CAN ONLY HAVE 48 STUDENTS, SO IF THERE ARE MORE THAN THAT, WE ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE A SECOND BUS.  THAT'S WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE AN ACCURATE NUMBER OR KIDS GOING ON FRIDAYS.

FRIDAY MAY 3, 2013 WE WERE SCHEDULED TO GO OUT TO THE TRAILS, WE WILL NOW BE GOING TO THE YMCA.

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A RELAXING SPRING BREAK

Healthy Easter Dessert Recipe: Fruit Pizza

Say goodbye to root vegetables and hearty stews! Easter recipes are all about fresh and light. What better way to bring in the season of fresh produce than showcasing it for Easter Brunch? Try out one of our favorite summer desserts: Fruit Pizza!
A feast for your eyes as well as your mouth! Photo from yanajenn on Flickr

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1- 8 oz. pkg cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave nectar
  • 2 Tbsp Orange/Pineapple juice
  • 1 cup Cool Whip
  • Fresh fruit for topping
Preheat your oven to 350°. In a bowl, beat butter, sugar, and egg until fluffy. Add baking soda, cream of tartar, and flour. Mix until well combined. It should be the consistency of a soft cookie dough. Press dough onto a buttered round pizza dish or a 9×13 baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes. Allow to cool.
In a separate mixing bowl, combine cream cheese,  juice, honey, and cool whip. Mix until well combined and spread on cooled cookie crust.
Top with fresh fruit. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
Note: We use the term “healthy” a little liberally for this recipe. However, for a dessert recipe, you’ll find you at least get nutrients to go along with your sugar. To make this recipe lighter try using Neufchâtel cheese instead of cream cheese and fat free cool whip. You could also halve the topping recipe and top with more fruit.
         REMEMBER THAT THIS WEEK
                   MARCH 25-29
       NO GOAL GETTER PROGRAM

On Fridays, I am going to be placing a sign up sheet outside the office for the students to sign up for Fun Friday.  It will be there in the morning until after 3rd period.  If the student has not signed up, they will not be able to go with us on that Friday.  It is very very important that I have an accurate number of Fridays because I need to make sure that we are following State Bus laws, and I need to know on Fridays if we need to take 1 or 2 buses.  I have not been getting an accurate number so the bus barn and I have talked and I am going to do what the Jr. High does and have a sign up sheet on Fridays. Hopefully this will help the bus barn out.
